How to: Importing 3D model and allowing learner to move through it

Hi,

I have a 2D floor plan that I would like to use to create a 3d model of a floor in a building.  I know that AutoCad and Sketchup allow for some 3D modeling, but I was wondering how the logistics work to integrate this into Captivate 9.

So... Which software is best to use to create 3d models of buildings that can allow learners to move through them / interact with the model?  How can I integrate this 3d model into Captivate 9 so that my learners can walk through the building?

I can learn how to do the smaller steps, but I was just wondering what the big picture procedure / protocol could look for something like this.

Thank you!

Marina

For the best software to 3D model with... That is all a matter of preference and budget. With it being free and so many free tutorials, Blender is a good place to start on any first time modeling adventure.

As for implementing 3D in Captivate I don't believe an entire 3D walkthrough scene could be done as just adding one 3D object is difficult enough as explained in this thread : Embedding STL/VRML file in Captivate

A 3D model can be imported in a PDF using Acrobat Pro. You could create such a PDF and link to it from Captivate.

    Hi Marina,

I'm not sure you can actually do that in Captivate or at least not a true 3D Walkthrough. 3D simulation and Captivate are totally different presentation softwares. You could theoretically build your walk through in AutoCAD or SketchUp and record a video of a walk-through and then break the video into many clips and place them over several slides to give the illusion of a controlled walk-through, but I think that would probably be about it.

To answer your question about best software it really depends on your technical level and budget, the really good software can be technically daunting and pretty pricey.

    Cheers
