How To Insert .fla File?

Howdy,

I get the following message when I try to 'Insert' an .fla 'Animation'.

"To import a Flash project to Adobe Captivate, you should have Macromedia Flash MX 2004 or higher installed."

I have both Flash MX 2004 & the latest version of Adobe Flash Pro on my computer.

How do I get Captivate 4 to recognize that?

I just checked, and with Captivate 4/Flash CS4 Pro, Captivate just converts the FLA into a SWF (by calling Flash, presumably using OLE). I would suggest that while there's undoubtedly a bug preventing you from doing this, you can simply publish your Flash movie and import the SWF just as easily as having Captivate do it for you.

Hi Carl,

Thanks for your kind response. The challenge is, I've tried inserting the .swf file but to no avail.

I'm the user (kave2009) who posted the problem...

"Running Slowly: Adobe Flash Player 10"

I have the .swf file, and it starts to load in Cap4, but then there's a 'script error' (please see above mentioned post).

Any way you could help with this Carl? I'd be happy to send you the .swf file?

I am in desperate need of help!

I'd be glad to try--please keep in mind I'm not an expert! Rather than emailing me that SWF, it would probably be better to put it online somewhere so others who are more knowledgeable than me can try to help.

I stand to be corrected on this but I don't believe Captivate knows how to deal with the FLA. I believe you will need to use Flash and publish a SWF from the FLA. Then insert the SWF into Captivate as an animation.

Be sure to configure Flash for 30 frames per second so the resulting SWF matches Captivate's frame rate.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for your help, Rick. When one goes to 'Insert' an 'Animation', Cap4 lists under "Files of type: (*.swf, *.gif, *.avi, *.fla)". So it looks like I should be able to 'Insert' an .fla 'Animation'. Can you try this on your Cap4 and see if it works?

My reason for prefacing my earlier reply was because I'm not "Flash savvy". As a FLA is a Flash source file type, I'm at a loss to have one handy to try with.

Seems odd to me that FLA is listed there. I suppose perhaps since Captivate is compiling Flash output maybe it knows how to deal with a FLA. Not sure on that one!

Sorry, but I'll have to leave this one for someone versed in the dark arts of combining Flash with Captivate.
