how to keep proportions when resizing an imported picture

When I import a picture into a project I often want to resize it but keep the original proportions. In a programme such as powerpoint this is easily achieved by dragging from one corner of the picture. But this does not work in captivate as the proportions are not maintained.

There must be a simple way of doing this - but how?
