Question

how to place call outs / text boxes on video ? Issues with hiding buttons / triggers

I have 13 days to make a product demo with captivate.  I have been using storyline for 4 years, and the learning curve with adobe is challenging.

One of my issues is using a video on a slide, and I wanted to put callouts over the video (text boxes fading in and out describing things in the video) and I cannot get the video to play in the timeline so I can add and adjust timing of objects.

I also cannot seem to figure out how to get the submit button to work using the text input box, I hit the button and nothing happens, nor can I figure out how to get the "next" button I have put on the slides to be hidden, and triggered to be visible when the user hits the "submit" button that is attached to a text input box.

If anyone from adobe support or another user has encountered something similar, please let me know!

I understand your question differently. I don't know if you really want an interactive video, because you are also mentioning Text Entry Boxes (TEB), , and Next buttons. Interactive video is great, but the interactivity is rather limited.  Here is an example of an interactive video:

    Custom Play/Pause button

As for your question about the TEB, maybe have a look at this basic blog post:

You need first to know if you want a validated or non-validated TEB. The Success action can be set to 'show' something like a Next button, or you could use the Timeline: leave the Success action set to Continue but place the Next button timeline to start after the pausing point of the Text Entry Box. That way the button will only appear after the Continue command is triggered.

Thanks for your response and information.  I currenly have a screen record video on the slide, but I cannot get it to play when I hit the timeline.  In articulate storyline, I can play the timeline and my video plays, then I can use shortcut keys to make marks / cue points of where I'd like corresponding objects.  Is there a way to get a video to play on the slide in order to allign objects to the video?

How did you record the video please? Was it inserted as event or as slide video? If it was inserted as event video, you cannot play it on the timeline because it is totally independent from that timeline. That may explain why it is not playing when you  click the Play button in the Timeline panel. Slide video is synchronized with the timeline. Please have a look at this first blog post about the Timeline, explaining the features of the panel:

So, my answer is: be sure to insert the video as slide video.

Did you watch the interactive video which I posted in my first answer in this thread? Is this the type of course you want or not?

You didn't comment on my answer concerning your other problem with the Text Entry Boxes. Is that one solved?

It is very rare to see staff members appearing in this user forum. Usually I try to find someone for questions concerning licenses and payments, but technical questions are left to the other users.

Thanks so much for trying to help, I actually had watched this video and several others I found, but my video will not play on the timeline, only when I preview the slide...making it impossible to time my call outs with what is happening on screen
