How to publish a project to the web using FTP?

Hello,

I need to publish my project to the web using FTP.  The project will then be published to a LMS.  I have followed the steps outlined below;

- Select File > Publish

I am not provided an option to add another location.  Therefore, the file keeps saving to my computer.

I am using BlueHost (Webhosting), CyberDuck(File Management System), and Mac (iOS).

Thank you,

Sonya

With this in mind, you'll be using Captivate to Publish to a folder on your Mac, then launch CyberDuck to transfer the folder and files to BlueHost. Once the folder and files are on BlueHost, you'll need to generate a URL for learners to access the course, which may be something like:

http://www.BlueHost.com/~SHollandHR/myCaptivateCourse/myCaptivateCourse.htm

If you have an LMS, this path would be listed as the URL for users to access the course, if not - you just share the url with your users.

Upload the folder that is created, in case of HTML5 output, and launch from

the index.htm file.

Hi there

It sounds to me like you may understand "publishing" as a web developer might. In the world of web development, you work on your pages, then when you are happy with them, you "publish" them from your computer to the web site using perhaps an FTP client. In this way, "Publishing" is the action of copying the content from your computer to the web site.

In Captivate, the action of "Publishing" is telling Captivate to produce the output files the user will ultimately engage with. After that action you then perform the action you would really know as "Publishing". Perhaps it will help to think in terms of using Captivate to blend the ingredients. Publishing is the action of baking or cooking the ingredients to create the final dish. Only after the dish has been baked or cooked is it ready to serve to your guests.

Cheers... Rick
