How to put a TOC toggle button in a quiz

I can't create a new interactive button in the quiz, for opening and closing the Table of Contents, to allow users to refer back to the course. (We're using open book testing.) I'd like to use the default quiz slide but would this be solved if I made a slide from scratch, then selected the "Include in Quiz" Reporting option?

I always use toggle button for TOC, also on quiz slides, but you have to use a shape button, not a normal button.

You can put that button on the main master slide (be careful to have it in a location not colliding with embedded quiz objects) or on the first slide and timed for the rest of the project.

Maybe you did see this article, where I explained how to use a shared action for several toggle buttons, including a TOC?

Thanks for the reply, but I can't use a shape button (as far as I know) because I want to use a custom TOC button that I've been using as an image button on all of my other slides. Is there a way to use my custom image button (with rollovers)?

No!

Why keep to those 'old' image buttons? Maybe have a look at:

Shape buttons can have images for each InBuilt state. In Captivate 9 there is one bug: the InBuilt states will not show when the shape button is on the Master slide. In that case you'll have to use the second scenario: on first slide, timed for rest of the project.
