How to score a multi-step conversation

Hello!

I have barely touched Captivate since version 4, and I want to make a conversation simulator with multiple steps. The final answer of the learner will give the final score to the user for that simulation (the whole simulation should count as one quiz question, basically). 

I want to know what would be the best practice to score that result in the quiz.

I am using Adobe Captivate 2017 release.

How the conversation simulator works

  1. Slide 1: A video begins with the customer's intro. 3 buttons appear, each showing a different answer the salesman could give. The learner must click on one of those buttons.
  2. The button leads to a second slide, which includes the client's response to what the learner chose and additional answer options for the learner to select. 
  3. Once the final conversation piece is selected by the user, he is led to a feedback page detailing what went right and what went wrong in that interaction. A score should be associated with that feedback.

How to add scoring

I want partial scoring (for semi-effective exchanges) in this scenario. 

I attempted multiple methods to do this, all to no avail. 

  • I can't manually edit the score or the maximum score total using variables
  • I tried including a bunch of feedback buttons on the last slide, hiding all of them except the onw that corresponds to the learner's answers, but the total score is based on the sum of the scores for all interactive objects through the project, so that doesn't work.
  • I tried turning every part of the conversation into its own independent quiz slide, but it doesn't work since the total score includes the interactive objects from the conversation follow-ups that are not used in the branch taken by the learner, so that doesn't work.
  • I could program a separate score system using javascript, but then I don't think I would be able to report the grade to the LMS.

Could a Question widget solve this issue? Would a widget work in HTML5 on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablet?

Or is there no way at all to score a conversation simulator properly in Adobe Captivate?

    Steven's article explains how to customize using JS. You can try it that way. I'm not sure you need to use JS, but I don't understand the question very well. Did you use 'Branch aware'? I would start mapping out all possible situations, the end score you want to get based on the situations. At this moment, although your question has a lot of details, I am not able to give you a full proof answer. I have solved a lot of similar situations for clients and have some tricks, without JS. For certain, if you are fine with coding, go ahead with JS.

    Forgot: AFAIK I only did see 2 question widgets in the history of Captivate. I never did see any HTML5 compatible widget so far that you could label as a question widget.

    I'm mostly fine with coding, even if Javascript is not one of the languages I know very well. I have not tried the "branch-aware" option. I will have to read up on that.

     

    What I am trying to do is basically the equivalent of what iSpring Talkmaster does: http://www.ispringsolutions.com/ispring-talkmaster 

     

    Building an interactive conversation like that is pretty simple, but scoring the whole conversation is not straightforward like a multiple-choice question is. That is what I am struggling with. Also, ideally, I would like to be able to clone my conversation template a few times within a single module without too much work, changing only the content and the scoring.
