Question

HTML5 only widget

Is it possible to make a widget that only uses HTML5? I really don't want to waste time making the swf half of a widget, because we haven't used .swf output in years and we would never use that part of the widget.

Are widgets still being used? Or is the new way to create a widget for HTML5 output to simply embed the code/stuff as a web part?

Thanks,

Chris

Yes you can.  There's no requirement that I am aware of for a widget to include SWF components if you only ever intend to publish to HTML5.

However, apart from the Learning Interactions that ship with Captivate (which are both SWF and HTML5 compliant) the only commercially available HTML5 widget that I am aware of for Captivate 9 or later is the CpExtra HTML5 widget from Infosemantics.

    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-widgets/cpextra

This widget can be loaded like other widgets, or the code can be inserted 'headlessly' every time you publish to HTML5.

The main reason I would offer as to why there are not more widgets out there is that there's just too many headaches and no real money to be made in creating them.

Every time I try to make a widget with out a Flash component, I get an error saying the .wdgt is not a valid widget.

And when I try File > New Project > Widget in Flash, Animate opens and gives me an error when I click "Run as command" in the Open JSFL File window.

I'm not sure where I am going wrong. I wish there was better developer documentation for Captivate - something I have been saying for years.
