HTML5 Quiz Question not loading completely

I'm having a problem with some quiz questions in Captivate 8 not loading correctly.  They worked originally in SWF format but we are now converting to HTML5 and when I publish in HTML5, sometimes the question seems to freeze up as the page is loaded in the course. I can tell it is frozen because when you hover your mouse over the True and False answers, they are not highlighted.  The way it is supposed to work (and sometimes does) is that if you select an answer, you see immediate correct/incorrect feedback, and then you have to click the Forward button to continue to the next slide.  But when the question slide freezes, there's no hover-over highlighting, and if you click one of the answers, it jumps immediately to the next slide without showing you any feedback.

The weird thing is that if I go to a different slide (either with forward/back or with the TOC), and then return to that question, it will often (but not always) work correctly. I am using Captivate 8.0.3.290 and Firefox 52.7.3, but I could also recreate the problem in Internet Explorer. I also noticed that it is the second quiz question in the project (cptx file) and then every question after that which fails.  If I rearrange the questions, it's always the second question that has the problem, regardless of whether it's a T/F or multiple choice question type.  With enough jumping around, I can eventually get the question to load and work correctly, so I don't think there's anything fundamentally wrong with the properties for the question.

Any ideas?

Pam

Do you have any widgets in this project?

No, no widgets. I experimented with adjusting the timing of the slide (changing from 3 to 5 seconds) and moving the pause bar so the slide was Active for the entire 5 seconds.  That seemed to eliminate the problem of jumping to the next slide without feedback (my On Success value is set to No Action, so it should never have jumped at all!) but it still doesn't highlight the choices, and you have to click twice in order to select an answer.  And the problem still starts with the second question in the quiz, the first question works perfectly.

I would never move the pausing point to the end, leave at least a short inactive space.

Did you delete any of the embedded objects on the quiz slide. Embedded objects have o individual timeline. It is OK to turn them off if a checkbox is availale but never just delete them, not on the master slides nor on the quiz slide.

Maybe this is something you already do know. The Submit process has two steps, all linked with the Submit button and the pausing point:

    1. Learner clicks Submit and feedback messages appear, the playhead remains paused. Learner gets the instruction to click on the slide or to press Y for a Success or a Last Attempt answer. For a next attempt he gets the Retyr message.
    2. Learner clicks on the slide (or Y) and the playhead is released. The actions for Success or Last Attempts will be done. If you have that action set to No Action, the playhead will continue to the next slide since you have the pausing point at the last frame.
