I have a licence for Captivate 5 but Im afraid to use it!

I developed many courses in CP 4. Due to changes in the material, I constantly have to go back to them to edit and upload to our LMS. My company have 10 licences for CP 5 but if I start 5 using it how am I going to edit the courses created in CP 4.

How do I go about it?

I have to deregister 4 and load 5 to use for creating new courses

Then when I have to update a previous course I have to deregister 5 and load 4 again

When done deregister 4 and install 5 again

Ad infinitum and nauseous.....

Surely if I bought a Captivate 5 licence I am surely intending to use it why then does Adobe trap me into an impossible position of not being able to edit my CP 4 course in CP 5?

Do I have any other options or should I just forget about using CP 5?

    Hi there,

Firstly, Captivate 4 and Captivate 5 can co-exist on the same machine. i.e. You can have a registered copy of Captivate 4 and Registered Copy ( or a trial copy) of Captivate 5 running parellelly on the same machine.

Next, Captivate provides this Upward Compatibility with the content created in Captivate 4. In other words project created in Captivate 4 can be opened and edited in Captivate 5. Vice Versa is not true, i.e. Content created in Captivate 5 cannot be edited in Captivate 4.

Having said that i would like to draw your attention to this blog post:

Captivate 5 has a lot of cool new features and improved workflows. I encourage you to try them out.

Thank you AshwinBharghavB. I am so relieved they can co-exist!!! I did not know that. Sometimes when I import a CP 4 project the timing of some screen elements goes haywire.

While I have you on the line could I please ask 2more questions?

How the heck do I crop an image in CP 5?

When I open the library I cannot scrolll up and down using the arrows on the keyboard, I have to click on them one by one to see in the preview pane at the top if I have the correct one. Is there a way around this as I have 100ds of images and finding them by clicking one by one is sooo frustrating?

Thank you for your answer, I love the forum but live in South Africa where for some reason the site is incredibly slow and to answer someone or ask a question is an exercise in saintly patience!

    Hi,

Hope it was not a typo and it is indeed CP5. If you have an image, go in the properties, you'll find the crop tool (highlighted in yellow) in this region:

As for scrolling in the Library, I can use the arrow keys once the focus is on the library, here I'm puzzled,
