I have set my Quiz preferences where if a student passes and clicks the Continue button, they go to the certificate slide, if they failed, they would click the Continue button it is to take them back to the begining of the lesson. I have that set up

In the Quiz Preference I have set up in the lesson:

If a student passes and clicks the Continue button, they go to the certificate slide

If they failed, and the Continue button Captivate 7 is to take them back to the beginning of the lesson

I have set that in the Quiz Preference, but when a student fails the Continue button does nothing, what is wrong?

I'm still pretty new to this and I have 8 but I just had a lesson on this so...

To do this, or to add this remediation to this particular question, it's a two-step process. The first process is to choose the action that should happen when a learner gets an answer incorrect. The next process is going to happen on the slide they're taken back to. And here, you need to create a way for the learner to jump back to the quiz once they found the correct information.

Down on the quiz slide, in the properties panel under the Quiz tab, scroll down until you see the Actions area. Under the Actions area, you can choose the number of attempts, what failure message you see, as well as what should happen after the last attempt. As it currently stands, if you get the answer correct, you're going to continue to the next slide I assume. If you get the answer incorrect twice (or whatever you chose for attempts), you're still going to continue to the next quiz question. What you'd like to do is to say that, on the last attempt, or after you've missed this question twice, you'd like them to jump to a slide.

So select the slide that has the information. If the learner answers the question incorrect twice, they'll automatically be brought here, to slide number x. Now, in slide number x, if you have a Next button and if you select that Next button, under the Actions panel, on success, you can actually choose Return to Quiz. Now, the Return to Quiz action is a little bit unique. If the learner is just started the eLearning presentation and they get to this slide, and they've never gone to the quiz, then if they click this particular button, it's going to automatically take them on to the next slide.

Yet, once they've returned to this slide from the quiz, if they were to click the same Next button, that time, it would take them back to the quiz. The other way you can jump back to the quiz is to not use the button, but to use the slide itself. So if you didn't have a button on this slide, or if you wanted to leave this slide as Continue, you could then go to the Properties panel, select the Back under the slide, come down to Actions, and On Exit, you could choose Return to Quiz. Both of these options will work, and it really depends on whether or not you'd like a button on the slide to allow the learner to jump back to the quiz.

Your information is well explained, but I don't think the original poster is discussing the Quiz Remediation feature.

The only way to have any control over what the Continue button does is via the Preferences > Quiz > Pass or Fail settings. As you have indicated, you can set the On Passing Grade option to have the learner progress beyond the Quiz Result slide to a Certificate. But what you are trying to do is have the On Failing Grade action jump the learner back to the beginning of the lesson. However, it's possible that there are other settings in your project (e.g. Quiz > Settings > Required dropdown) that are going to prevent the Continue button from working.

In any case, if your idea is that you want the learner to return to the beginning of the module and redo it again, there are several factors to consider. Unless you are allowing multiple attempts on the quiz, the learner would NOT be able to redo the quiz simply by jumping back to the start. You should be allowing multiple quiz attempts in the Quiz > Settings area AND you need to turn on the Retake Quiz button. THAT would be the button you want your learner to click on the Quiz Results slide, NOT the Continue button.

In the Quiz Settings in the Pass or Fail section, I allow the students to have 3 Attempts and the Show Retake Button is checked. I have in the Action button Jump to Slide and in the Slide box I have the slide number for the beginning of the Lesson. This is all for the student that failed the Quiz. The If Passing Grade area works great, it is just the If Failing Grade I am having problems with. On the Quiz Results I have the Retake Quiz button and the Review Quiz button along with the Continue button that seems to only work for the Passing student. Do I need to add an action button for the student to use if they fail? But I would need to write a script in the advance action part, but I am not comfortable with trying to write a script, since the last time I did that in Captivate it was not a pretty result, which made me do a lot or rework.
