I need to limit how many times a user can take a quiz.

When I look at the user guide and #5 it reads: ( I'm trying to achieve the bold and underlined bullets within this section but I don't see the options for how to do that). It's like the bullets are missing from the screenshot and from what I'm looking at...Help? How can I limit a test to 2 attempts in my lms?

Quiz

The course is considered to be complete or successful based on the users’ performance in quiz. You can choose one of the following criteria:

  • Users attempt the quiz: Here, the status is reported as Complete if users attempt the quiz irrespective of whether they pass or fail the quiz.

  • Users pass the quiz: Here, the status is reported as Complete only if users pass the quiz.

  • Users pass or the attempt limit is reached: Here, the status is reported as Complete if users pass the quiz or have taken all the attempts. For example, if the number of attempts set in the course is 2, and:

    • Users take the first attempt and pass, then the status is reported as Complete and Passed.

    • Users take the first attempt and fail, then the status is reported as Incomplete and Failed as the attempt limit is still not reached.

    • If users retake the quiz and fail, the status is reported as Complete and Failed.

    • If users attempt the quiz again and pass, the status is reported as Complete and Passed.

With the 100s of LMS out there, not all of them function the same. From within Captivate you can setup multiple but a limited number of attempts using these steps.

    1. Open up your Preferences (Shift + F8) / Quiz / Pass or Fail
    2. Navigate to the Quiz category and then to the Pass or Fail sub category
    3. Select your other Pass or Fail criteria and then select allow user  # of attempts and check off show retake button

For this to work successfully you need to ensure that bookmarking is turned on so that your LMS remembers the earlier attempts if students decide to exit the course early. It's on by default but you may wish to check it. That can be found at Preferences / Quiz / Reporting and under the Advanced button at the bottom of that screen:

    2017-08-30 6-27-08 AM

    2017-08-30 6-28-00 AM

When you publish the project the Quiz Reporting Standard will determine how it reports to the LMS but it seems to me that as long as you select the quiz is passed as your success criteria and uncheck anything to do with user access or slide views you should be fine.

    HI Paul,

Yes, the retake button allows the user to take the test over within the same login session.

What I want the user to do is, be able to come back and take the exam one more time, but only one more time.

When I test these options I can only retake the exam over and over until I do pass it. I need them to only take the exam twice.

Do you know what settings do that?
