Question

Import option is suddenly grayed out

Hello all,

suddenly the option to import slides and objects from other Captivate projects is deaktivated in the menu. All other import options are selectable, ony this one option suddenly cannot be used any more (not even in completely new projects). Rebooting the system does not help. I can open both projects and copy/paste the desired slides, but how do I get back the standard importing functionality? This used to work perfectly until somewhen last week.

My import function is back now! I followed the procedure above, and then shortly after due to a major chrash the admin also did a general system restoration. Either the one or the other brought it back to life.

Thanks for your help and efforts!

Hello,

Do not have any idea, but perhaps a corrupted Preferences file. Did you change a lot of Preferences? You will lose them if you follow this workflow, but perhaps (not sure) it could bring back the Import option for Slide/Objects.

Close CP, find the file 'Captivate_v40.dat' (if you use CP4). If you are on WinXP It is in 'Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Captivate'.  If you are on another OS, let me know, I'll search for the path (someting with Roaming...). Delete this file. Fire up CP, it will create a new Preferences-file with default settings.

Hi there

In addition to what Lilybiri suggested, I would politely ask you to perform a double check. Perhaps even post a screen capture for us to view.

There is an Import option that is typically always disabled or grayed out. I'm wondering if you are possibly confusing that with what you want.

Cheers... Rick

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try that as soon as I am through my day's work!

To be more precise about the deactivated menu item:

In the File menu, under Import there are several options. The first four are, in this order, Comments, Titles, Slides/objects from other projects and PPT-slides. I do not know the excact english representation because I have an other language installed. Anyway, the third option is what I need, but it is greyed out (together with the second option).

I just thought this might be a known issue. So if the tip above does not do the job then I will try to repair/reinstall.
