Question

importing a captivate .swf simulation into a bigger project

hello, I'm using captivate 6. I need to focus on one area of an application's screen and record a brief activity. I tried this by selecting the snap to "application region", adjusting size, recording the action, and then publishing the piece as a .swf for use in a bigger project. The .swf plays perfectly on its own, but when I try importing it as an animation for use on a slide, it's unplayable. It's a static grey box with coloured lines and borders.

if captivate can play .swf animations, then why not ones of its own creation? Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

There are a lot of problems when importing a CP-created SWF into another CP-project. If you look around on this forum you'll find explanations from Flash-developers.

Better practice is to import the slides into the bigger project. Or, if those small SWF's are not interactive,  create MP4's instead. Importing a video is no problem at all.

thanks for your response. the problem with importing the slide into the bigger project is that I don't want the sequence to appear on its own as a unique slide, but rather as a layer over the wider page view (a slide). For example imagine wanting a close up of a password being entered (the .swf or movie) while still keeping the wider sign in page intact, behind it.

I tried importing it as an MP4 though this appears as a mini-player and requires the viewer to press play. The sequence needs to trigger automatically to synch with voice over. If you don't have any other suggestions, to your knowledge is the flash issue solvable?

    thanks again.

Lilybiri is correct then.  You should output the project as MP4 and insert it as a video.  In your case, you need to insert it as slide video, not event video.  Then you can synchronise with voiceover.
