Importing Power Point presentation to Captivate 9 (mac user). Unable to edit slides. Please advise.

On a Mac, I imported a Power Point presentation to Captivate 9.  I would like to edit and add effects.  At this point I cannot change any of the PPT imported slides.   Could someone advise me. Thank you.

Thank you. I see that's what needs to happen.  I am so new to Captivate.  I have not figured out how to create a theme from their branded theme.  I may have to go back to power point for this one.  But I really wanted all of the pro effects and finishes of Captivate.  If you know of any place that will show/teach me how to create a theme, that would be wonderful.  Thank you again.

It depends: do you need to publish responsive projects or normal projects?

A theme in Captivate consists (and I recommend that sequence) of all object styles (including settings for Default styles, states for buttons and shape buttons, settings for breakpoint views in case of responsive projects), master slides (which will use object styles) and skin. Each theme also can switch to another theme color palette. I only blogged about the color palette, which can also be used in different Learning Interactions. Most books/training just touch that subject very sparingly or omit it, which I don't understand. I suspect is linked with having to get a book out very quickly, and writers/trainers not being developers.

Hi there

I'm a PC user, not a Mac. But I might assume the Mac behaves identically to the PC in this respect. PPT to Captivate is a one way street. As each PPT slide is imported it is converted to a Flash SWF and inserted as the background for the slide. Thus, what you can typically edit in PPT you cannot in Captivate. If something needs to change, you must first change it in PPT, then re-import it.

Captivate does offer a way to edit from Captivate, but it opens PPT under Captivate's control.

If you need (or want) more control over things than this offers, you need to perhaps use PPT to design the slide, but ultimately create it again in Captivate in order to have full control over the objects.

Cheers... Rick

Thank you for this information.  I was hoping to enhance a PPT presentation with all of the effects in Captivate.  The project has a particular branded theme.  I would recreate each slide if I could import their theme slide.

You will have to create the theme in Captivate and use the assets to create

the Captivate project from scratch or use a PPT plug-in as tool instead of

Captivate.
