Question

Importing Powerpoint

I have a strange problem importing Powerpoint slides. I select a Powerpoint file to import and then indicate in the PowerPoint slide options dialog box where it should be inserted. The piechart spins while it is extracting the thumbnail images from PowerPoint. When I get to the Insert Slides wizard there are no slides to select. I have tried with a number of files but get the same result every time. The files were created in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003. Has anyone experienced this problem. I have no idea why this is the case.

Thanks for your help Mark. I don't actually have a problem with some slides in any presentation. I can't import PowerPoint files at all. Captivate just doesn't seem to recognise the fact that there are slides in the files. The import goes OK until the import wizard gives the opportunity to choose slides and click the finish button. The wizard does not present any slides to choose, so the finish button can't be clicked. I have tried numerous files which were created on different machines and with different copies of PowerPoint. I have tried re-installing Captivate, but that didn't help. Do you know if there is a problem with importing PowerPoint 2003 files that were created under XP service pack 2. I don't know where to go from there. I even tried creating a simple document which only contained text. This could not be imported either.
Thanks,
Craig

Hello jockdee3,

As far as I am aware there aren't any problems importing PowerPoint 2003 using either Captivate 1.0 or Adobe Captivate 2. I have tested this using both basic and complex slides and I have yet to experience the sort of problem you have outlined with Win XP Pro SP2.

Two things I would try are:

1. Trying copying and pasting the first five slides into a fresh PowerPoint file and see if you can import these into Captivate. If you can then you know that there is a problem with one of the slides in the original PowerPoint file.
2. Send me the PowerPoint files in question offl-list and let me test the PP file for you using my system.

Mark

Hello jockdee3,

In this first instance take a look at this thread. http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=67&catid=466&threadid=1198139&enterthread=y

If this does solve the probem then please do let us know, if not then feel free to send me the PPT in question and I will test this for you.

Regards,
Mark
