Question

Importing Powerpoint into Captivate 4 - Random Text Appears. Is this caused by animation in the Powerpoint slides?

Hi,

I have been reading about people's various problems with importing Powerpoint but so far haven't found exactly the problem that I have been encountering which is odd random letters of text appearing in my imported PP slides. I am using Captivate 4 and have tried both PP2003 and PP2007 versions of the presentations with the same results. It has just occurred to me that is might be caused by the fact that that the sets of PP slides have animation in them (although not on every slide). I read on one thread on this forum that Captivate 3 didn't support this in PP2007 and I have just tried a completely non animated presentation in PP2007 which seemed to work OK. I have tried to copy the image but haven't been able to do this so I hope this description is clear enough. BTW the random items of text don't appear in edit mode only in preview or when the project is published.

Is anyone able to confirm whether it is the animation that might be causing this or offer a solution for preventing/avoiding it? I have tried a couple of solutions suggested for colour problems that others have encountered but they haven't worked.

Hope someone can help with this.

Hi,

I could not understand the last line of your post -

"BTW the random items of text don't appear in edit mode only in preview or when the project is published."

Are you seeing this problem even in the published projects?

In edit mode, generally such random texts are seen when they are actually a part of animation in PPT slides. But it should play well in the published movie.

Sorry, if this was unclear but what I meant was that the items of text (in most cases these are single lettets but occasionally a whole line of text from another slide) can be seen when playing in the preview mode and when the projects are published they can't be seen on the slides when they are in edit mode and therefore can't be deleted. I was hoping they would disappear in the published versions but this was not the case.

Ok. Thanks for the information.

I would suggest you install Captivate 4 patch update which has few fixes for PPT Import too. Check if that resolves your issue. Please note that once patch is installed you will have to start from a new project and import PowerPoint once again.

Patch update can be downloaded as follows -

1. Launch Adobe Captivate 4

2. Go to menu item Help > Updates

3. Patch for Captivate 4 will be identified and downloaded.

4. Close Captivate 4 so that patch will be installed automatically.

Once patch is installed, launch Captivate and go to menu item Help > About Captivate. The version number should be "1658". If yes, patch update is installed successfully.

More information about patch can be found here - http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2009/05/captvate_4_patch_update.html
