Incompatibility issue with Adobe Captivate "Merge Background", Version 8.0.1.242 Vs. 8.0.1.287

In version 8.0.1.242, the function of merging an object with the background (right click- merge with background- in Filmstrip view) does not work in version 8.0.1.287, but instead an object has to be inserted into the master slide in order to appear as a background image, it can then be merged into the background in the Master slide view. This is fine and works rather well for version 8.0.1.287, however there is a backward compatibility issue when trying to edit a slide that was created with version 8.0.1.242. For instance; a slide made in version 8.0.1.242 with an image merged into the background (from the filmstrip view)- if this slide is copied and pasted into a new project created with version 8.0.1.287, it will cause all the text to disappear in the entire project. The text will be visible in the filmstrip view, but not in the large editing window, nor when it is published. Once this slide is pasted into the project, it will destroy the project and there is no way to fix it unless it has been backed up previously to doing so. We have also found that ANY text element copied from the slide with the  merged background (created in Ver 8.0.1.242), will destroy the project and cause loss of all the text in all slides. At first it appears to be a layer issue that could be fixed with the "Arrange" function, because when you hover the mouse over the areas where text should be, the pointer changes to a hand and if clicked, the text will reappear, however after saving the project and or republishing it, the text will disappear again when viewing it after saving it or even publishing it. We have narrowed this problem down to this Merge function and the software version. After about 60 hours of frustration, creating projects only to have them self implode after copying a slide from a previous version 8.0.1.242. Once it implodes, there is no way to fix it. It appears to be an issue with the merge functionality that has changed in ver 8.0.1.287, making it incompatible with the previous version 8.0.1.242. I believe this is a "bug" in the new version. We have two copies of Captivate, one of each version so we were able to narrow this problem down. Please let me know if you are aware of this problem or have a fix for it. I'm concerned that if we update both of our systems to the newest release, we may have big problems when editing older projects created with version .0.1.242, if there are any slides that have images merged into the background.
