Question

Incorrect course score being passed erratically to the LMS (CornerStone)

An issue that has recently come to my associates and my attention is an error that happens randomly where the score at the end of the course is not passed correctly through the LMS (CornerStone). It is an issue that happens so erratically we are unable to replicate it in testing. Attached is a picture of a recent time where the score at the end of the test was not transferred correctly to the LMS.

Here the learner got a 30 out of 100 (30%) and need an 80% to pass. However, here the leaner received a score of 100% and a complete in the LMS even though they failed the course with a 30%. I would say this issue has a less than 1% of happening, but do to the importance of these course with new policies any random passes are not acceptable. The test is a ten question test with each question worth ten points. Sadly it is not just this course that is being affected but this unpredictably issue. We have had reports that every course has had this issue of the score being incorrectly transferred on atleast once.

Attached below is a picture of the settings we are currently using for our courses. For the record we have chosen to use scorm 1.2 over 2004 as there is a known issue with Captivate and (LMS) CornerStone with the complete/ incomplete. Also we are using Never Send Resume Data as we were having freezing issues related to bookmarking. We are currently using Captivate 5.5.

I am dumb founded as to where this random issue could be developing. Any suggest is appreciated.

Has this been resolved? I was told by CornerStone to use SCORM 2004 to get what I need.

No, it is still not resolved. CornerStone’s main support was for 1.2 not 2004 in 2011 not sure if this has changed. 1.2 being very old there is a file size limit on the data that the module can pass. Usually you notice this in the cmi_suspend_data passed. It can generate errors or if the LMS is suppressing the errors leaving courses with incorrect data. 1.2 file size limits can give all kinds of bizarre errors.

Yes, ideally Scorm 2004 would best the best solution.

Hi

I have a client who asked me to check a similar scoring issue they have with a Captivate 5.5 file published in SCORM 1.2 running on Cornerstone.

  • The scoring for the module is not working correctly. When a learner gets 90% or 100% on the assessment, their learning records only show 80%.
  • The report shows that it is not a one off it happens for everyone as no one has scored more than 80% for this module since it has been on PeopleLink.
  • People who are getting 80% or more are still getting a completed status.

Before I spend hours investigating this mystery, I would like to know if you think this is an issue related to the SCORM version in Cornerstone?
