Initializing a button for reuse, revisited and a little frustrated...

Hello,

I am 90% successful at getting the results I need with a reusable button...I've been following Lilybiri's blog on how to do this...there is one place where I am failing.

Some background. I would like to be able to make a button reusable on the same slide....have the user click on it multiple times. To do this, I am making a conditional action with two statements. for this example, my I will call my expression ButtonLive and its variable v_variable.

When a user clicks the button assigned with the conditional v_variable, if the v_variable has the value of 0,  another button appears. After viewing the contents of that button, the user can click the close button and the process can start over...ideally. By the process can start over again, I mean that the user can reclick the original button and start the process again. But, if I put a Disable button argument in the original if statement, the button becomes unclickable. Even if I have a 1=1 Var argument setup with the variable = 1-variable, the button is still disabled...I am assuming per entering the original If statement. If I take the disable option out, it works and I can reclick it, but depending on which different options I put in (show the other button, etc.), it still does not get to the ideal state of disabling the button while the information is being shown, and reenabling it when the user wants to see the information again. I would like to upload my file somewhere so someone can take a look.

I really need this to work for a project, please  help!!!!!!!

    Hi Lilybiri,

That is exactly the functionality I am looking for. Thank you very much for showing me that this is possible. This has helped me tremendously with my project and learning how variables work and hold information. I was confused as to how variables are initialized to 1...I thought including them in a statement automatically initialized them. You have initialized it in the first If statement as 1. At that point, If the user clicks on the button again, the variable is set back to 0 in t the Else statement, and the process can start over.

You have made my day with this! I do have one last question if I could bother you, then I will close out this discussion.

You have included two other Standard Actions in the file you sent ShowWord and hidebox. They are both set to Action Continue. Are those things you were used in the file for something else, or do they have some meaning...I think not, but I want to make sure.

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!

    Dan

    Hi Dan,

Oh I forgot to clean up... happens when I'm too busy (don't visit my house without warning )

No, those were actions created by you that I didn't delete. They are not used at all. Continue is the default statement that CP uses when another statement is 'broken' because the object has another name or has been deleted or...

Please, could you mark the thread as Answered?

Did you hear me sigh? If  I got 10cents for each visit to my blog, 1$ for each time a work flow, template described there was used, and 100$ for each file I debugged for a user, would have the budget to buy a new laptop for sure...

OK, post it somewhere and send me the link by private message. Please add a clear description (you can use a text container in the scratch area) of what you want to achieve with each advanced action.
