Insert Silence in Caption Audio not Saving

When I try to insert silence into the beginning of the audio file in a caption box, it (the silence) appears to have been added. However when I open the caption later, the silence is gone. This only happens some of the time and I certainly cannnot see why. Please advise! TY.

Simple. Not that it's a "good thing" but Captivate likes to truncate silence from the beginning (and end, I believe) of an audio file. There is a weird but simple fix available:

1) Add a tiny sound of say, one-tenth second to the beginning, in front of the silence.
. . . . .1a) It can be ANY sound because we're not going to hear it anyway ....
. . . . .1b) If the sound is longer, use the editor to delete all but that tiny portion, just enough to see it as a spike on the waveform.
2) "Select" that little bit of sound (using the mouse or keyboard)
3) Use the "Volume" control and turn down the volume for the spike until it appears on the waveform, but makes no discernible sound.

There may be other ways to handle this problem, but I've found that while this way is down and dirty, it is very quick and effective.

Thanks. We gave it a whirl and it seemed to work. This explains why sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. (Because usually it worked when I actually clicked on the audio timeline and just happened to leave enough sound in front of the silence by accident.)

Thanks again.
