Insert Symbol not working Captivate 9

I'm trying to insert the copyright symbol into a line of text.  When I click on the button for insert symbol, the computer seems to freeze.  Nothing happens, the symbol box does not open, and I can't click on anything else.  When I click Esc I'm able to proceed working in the course...

Any ideas?  I've used captivate on and off for years and this is a first for me.

Did you upgrade from a former version, or install the patch to 9.0.2? In that case, could you Clean the Preferences, and delete the Layouts folder in the Public documents while Captivate is closed, if you haven't done it before installing the patch/version?

I missed the part about ESC in your original question, sorry. Rod points out what could be another cause for your issues.

Do you clear the cache regularly? Which font are you using? Are you on 9.0.2?

Yes on the cache, but I just installed this version a few weeks ago.

Roboto, but I tried Arial and got the same result.

Have you perhaps been using multiple monitor setup and somehow changed that setup?

The fact that you regain control by hitting the ESCAPE key leads me to believe that your issue is related to a dialog box (for the symbols) being located somewhere OFF screen, probably because the last time it was used involved a monitor setup that you currently do not have.  Until you can replicate that other monitor setup, see the dialog, and drag it back to the main screen, you will continue to get this result.

Sometimes you can also fix this issue by resetting your WorkSpace, or resetting the Preferences folder.  But getting the monitor setup right is usually the best way.
