Inserting links into a state of a multi-state object

Has anyone else come across this?

I want to embed text links in different states of a multi-state object, however the option to add a link is only available to me in the default state.

Here, you'll see I select the text in the default state and am able to insert a link if I want to.

However in another state of the same object, the option to add a link is gone.

Is this a bug, oversight, or due to the nature of a multi-state object, not possible at all to add a link?

What are some workarounds, other than creating multiple slides instead of states?

You will read that it is possible to insert a hyperlink, but it would be the same in all states of the object. If you can track the state which is active (by a user variable, there is no system variable available) you can trigger a conditional action with that hyperlink to do something different in each state. Bit cumbersome...
