Question

Install Captivate 4 on Windows 7 64-bit machine with Windows XP mode?

Hi,

I have been searching the web to find out the best way/place in which to load Captivate 4 on my Windows 7 64-bit machine. Seems some people have issues with recording, others don't. I have Windows XP mode on my machine.

My question is... what's the best way to load Captivate 4 on Windows 7 - should I install to Windows 7 and see how it goes. Or should I install under Windows XP mode?

Thank you!

Michele

Hi, thank you all for your responses and help. I have successfully installed Cap 4 to Windows XP mode and it does seem to be working ok so far. I did notice the formatting toolbar icons are shaded in blue/can't use them. Not sure if anyone else has seen that?

    Again, thank you,

    Michele

Hey, I have windows 7 64 bit and adobe captivate 4 installed.  What happened to me when I start to record is, after I snap to grid and start recording it will not allow me to stop recording.  I will pull up the taskmanager and try to end the IE explorer then IE freezes up and task manager freezes up.  Funny thing happens after that...I can close out IE explorer and the taskmanager with the X button but my start menu disappears and everything locks up but my e-mail client...that to eventually dies.  I do a hard re-boot and go through a windows start up fix routine.  Just thought I would share my mishap with you....Crazy o'l software incompatibility!!!

Try running Cp4 in WinXp compatibility mode on Win7.  Also make sure you're set to Run as Administrator.

I run Cp4 on Win7 without issues.  But other users report similar problems to yourself.  In the end, it may or may not work for you because Adobe has never claimed Cp4 was compatible with Vista or Win7 64bit.

    Hi Michele

I'd try simply installing first and see how it goes. If it works, terrific! It does seem to work for some such as Rod Ward. For me it never worked. It appeared to work, as it I could launch it. But I was never able to make it record anything. Editing may work, not sure. I just gave up when I saw it failed to record and I installed in the Windows XP Virtual Machine and it works fine there. The only issue is that I'm limited to recording stuff inside the VM and cannot escape it to record Windows 7 stuff, Have to use Cap 5 for that.

    Cheers... Rick

    Hi Rick,

Thank you... here I go! Wish me luck. If it doesn't work and I need to install to XP mode, I haven't done that before - do you mind if I ask you how to do that if necessary?

    Thank you!

Hi, well... I do get an error when I start recording and then press END - "error encountered while copying audio stream"

Should I do this - found it on the forum for Vista 64 (I have 7 64-bit):

    1. Close Captivate
    2. Run 'command prompt (cmd)' in Admin mode
    3. Go to the directory where Captivate-4 is installed
    4. Run 'regsvr32 NSAudio.dll'
    5. You should get a message 'registration of dll successful'
    6. Now launch Captivate-4 again and execute your test.

    Thank you,

    Michele
