I am fairly new to Captivate. Recently moved to the eLearning team at our company and am working on a new course. I have learned a lot from watching Paul Wilson and Rod Ward's youtube video's but I'm stuck. I am trying to make a slide that has a picture of our software. I want the user to be able to click on the screen and be able to hear the audio or information about that portion of the software they clicked. I have done the following:

Created buttons for every area I want to be interactive.

Created a variable for each button. Value of 0

Created audio for those buttons.

I am stuck trying to make the advanced action statement. I got so far but when I get to the slide all the audio plays. I have the slide to pause on exit. And I have a continue button for the client to move on when ready. I am just struggling with how to get each button to only play that portion and hide the rest.

Any input is appreciated.

Do NOT attach the audio to any object. Verify all objects in the Timeline: none should have an audio icon.

Just use the Actions tab for the button, open the dropdown list, choose Play Audio and browse to the audio clip.

Don't forget to deactivate the option to continue the movie.

Why would you need an advanced action and variables for such a simple setup?

Trigger the command 'Play Audio' with the success event of the buttons will do the trick.  Audio clips triggered with that command can never overlap. When a new button is clicked, and a new command Play Audio is triggered, the previous clip if it was not ended would be stopped right away.

Big advantage of most videos: they never explain why something is done that way, you don't have to understand, just to follow the steps. Audio attached to an object (object audio) is playing immediately when that object is visible.

The only reason why you could have to use variables would be if you want to do something after all buttons have been clicked. If that is not necessary, go with the simple commands 'Play Audio'. Why make it complicated, when it can be done in an easy way.

If you knew me, Lilybiri, you'd know this is my MO. I tend to over complicate all the time. I have been on your blog a bit too. I find you very helpful as well. I did try changing the on success to play audio and attach the audio but when I review the slides the audio starts right away, not just when I click the button.

I assumed I had to have an advanced variable for that many audio's...
