Internet Explorer 7

Hi,

This might be a captivate or flash player issue and seems quite complex, but we can't watch flash videos in a published project with Explorer 7. Here are the steps that caused the problem.

1. Create project, import video etc.
2. Publish to network server as flash swf.
3. Open (html)
4. Watch slides, but no video.
5. Re-publish as stand alone
6. Seems to work except that
a) We had to split project in two as there appears to be a limit on how many FLV files you can have.
b) When clicking on the button to open a new URL/file nothing happens (links are correct, tried current and new destination windows)

Apart from the limit issue we had no issues with opening published projects in Explorer 6.

Any ideas as to what the issue might be (we have looked at security etc, but can't see anything that would be blocking the loading of the flash video.

Thanks

Tim

    Yes,
We have the latest flash player. On IE7 it played flash videos with with no problem from the internet, or my desktop, just as soon as it was published to another network server we had the problems. This problem disappeared when IE6 was re-installed leading to the conclusion that there is a problem with IE7 and captivate.

Interesting. We've had the same issue with Firefox 2 but no issues with Firefox 3, IE 6, or IE7.

    Tim,

Have you made sure you have the latest Flash Player plugin installed for IE7?

It could be that your IE7 Flash Player plugin is too old to be able to display the FLV correctly.

Just a thought related to the SWF publishing, Tim. Have you tried a different browser to verify that the issue is directly related to IE7? Does the FLV content appear okay in Firefox, Safari, or Opera?

Regarding your issues with the standalone version, I haven't a clue, since the executable file is not browser-dependent. Sounds like two separate problems to me, but perhaps I misunderstood ...

    Hi,

We can view the FLV content in IE6 (we had to downgrade from IE7 in the end, which solved the problem for the short-term). We don't have the oppurtunity to try a different browser as all our systems are validated for internet explorer.

The fact that we can view FLV content in IE6, but not IE7 does seem to suggest an issue with IE7 and captivate projects.

We checked security settings on flashplayer, folders, server and IE7 but could not find an issue. The strange thing is though when the projects where launched from our LMS we could view the FLV content, except for when we opened a link from one published project to another (we had to do this as there seems to be a limit on the number of FLV videos that can be contained in one project, but thats another issue).

We also now think that the issue with opening a link from a stand alone published project is a separate security issue, but we have mostly been trying to figure out why the FLV content would not show in IE7.

    Cheers
