Is it possible to control (play/pause) the youTube video?

We have a slide with two tabs (not Learning Interactions) where clicking on one displays an image file, while clicking on the second displays a youTube video (Learning Interaction). The issue is that once the video starts playing and the user clicks on the first tab, the video is replaced by the image (as it should) however the user can still hear the audio from the video.

Any way to pause the youTube video?

If I had to do this I would NOT be trying to do it on a single slide.  Use two slides and jump between them when clicking on the tabs.  Make the video a Slide Video, not an Event Video.
