... is not a valid Win32 application for exe files created with Captivate 5

My colleague is using Windows AppLocker to create a security rule for .exe files generated with Captivate 5. For the type of primary condition, he is selecting File hash, but he then receives an error message stating that "is not a valid Win32 application. (Exception from HRESULT: 0X800700c1)"

This issue occurs only with .exe files generated with Captivate 5. Older files created with version 3 are OK, and a file created with a trial version of Captivate 6 was OK. He converted a project that I created in version 5 (that caused the error message) to version 6, and it then worked fine for him.

He found the following article that may be related: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2749690

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this and how to fix it?

    Hello Andrew,

One reason I could think of was Captivate 5 never supported Win 7 or Win 8, and possibly the way it created .exe is not supported any more. I need to check with my developers for more reasons but on a high-level it might be that case of platform not supported.

    Thanks,

    Vish

Captivate 5 never supported Win7??  That's news to me.  I ran it (and still do) on Win7.

What I meant is win7 was new during the Captivate 5 release and there might be known issues. It will surely run on Win7 but don't be surprised if there are specific issues

    Thanks,
