Question

Is there a better to add audio to a project?

I have a number of projects that I have been working on with doing a video demonstration. We have a number of different sources for the content... one person does a software simulation in Captivate and supplies me with the raw slides. A completely different person does the voice over scripts. So.... I need to put the two together. Historically, what I have been doing is to adjust the slide transitions and timing in Captivate.... produce an MP4 of the project. Then, add the MP4 and WAV (from the voice over) into Camtasia and produce the final video project from there. I would much rather do the whole project in Captivate. Is this even possible given that the source files for the audio and graphics are coming from two different sources?  Thanks in advance to any directions here.

Regards,

Dave

This means it is not an interactive software simulation, just a demo? You probably use an old workflow, because I find it strange that you don't use Camtasia for everything since you don't want any interactivity?

To answer your question: you can do exactly the same in Captivate. I don't understand the problem. Once the VO is synchronized in Captivate you can just publish to MP4. Maybe I miss the benefit of importing that video into Camtasia? Must be me, not really understanding why 'different sources' is a problem. What do you add in Camtasia after importing the MP4 from Captivate?

Yes, this is a software simulation that is going to be used as a demo. The user sees the options and information entered into the application. This is the main reason to use Captivate, otherwise we might do everything in Camtasia. We do add a number of PPTs into the Captivate project and then add callouts where needed in Camtasia in the post-production.

Now, I tried adding the audio file to the Captivate project using the Audio / Import to Slides and set the timing of the slides. However, this interface appears to not as clean and responsive when working with the audio files. I guess what I am trying to do is find a better way.

So it is not about the video, but about the PPT-slides. My opinion about importing PPT in Captivate is very negative, I never use that feature at all. That is for other experts.

As for audio: be sure to use WAV-files. Import all audio clips to the Library. Drat them to the appropriate slide. That is the quickest work flow? If you expect some users to have lower bandwidth, or if you want to create responsive projects (but exclude PPT in that case) I recommend to leave a small gap nbefore and after the audio clip:

As for the demo: for better quality I could propose to use Video Demo instead of Software simulation in Demo mode. Software simulation in a slide-based way is great when you want to create an interactive tutorial, but for passive video publishing Video Demo is better. Camtasia is even better than Video Demo, still don't understand why you want to replace that.
