Is there a way to make failure captions work with multiple clickboxes?

Hi there.

I'm trying to have failure captions on the same slide as navigation clickboxes (I'm using my own playbar, rather than the built-in one). When I remove the navigation clickboxes, the failure caption works. When I have them there, it doesn't.

Is there any way to have the failure caption work while still having other clickboxes for navigation purposes, or do they only work when there's one clickbox on the slide? I know I can create an advanced action to get around this, but was wondering if there was a simpler solution.

Here's some more information on the clickboxes I'm using:

'Back button' clickbox - go to the previous slide (pause project until user clicks unticked)

'Back to start button' clickbox - jump to slide 1 (pause project until user clicks unticked)

'Objective' clickbox - the one that has the failure caption that the user needs to click to progress to the next slide (pause project until user clicks ticked)

Thanks.

    Correct answer Lilybiri

It's an objective based around how to use a system - there's a particular place they need to click in order to proceed. If they don't click that area, the failure caption shows to advise them of where they need to click.

I can't show a screenshot due to Data Protection - sharing screenshots of company systems on a public forum is a breach of our company's policy.

I'll give an example to make it clearer:

If I wanted to design a module on how to post a reply on this forum, I'd want a clickbox over the 'Add reply' button, so when they click it, it would go to the next slide (which would show the reply being posted). If they click anywhere outside of the 'Add reply' button, they'd get the failure caption saying 'Click the 'Add Reply' button to post the reply'.

I know a workaround would be to add another clickbox covering the rest of the screen which would have a success caption, but was wondering if there was a simpler solution.

    Does that make sense?

    Thanks.

No simpler solution, you'll need a click box (or shape button) behind the first click box. However I'm always hesitating to have two interactive objects in the same location if you want HTML5 output (no problem for SWF output).

Why are you using click boxes for navigation? That means you need to insert them on each slide. Why not use shape buttons either on the master slide or timed for the rest of the project?

I still don't understand the sentence: 'the one that has the failure caption that the user needs to click...'? Why do you need a failure caption to click on? Please explain more in detail what you want, and post a screenshot of the timeline and stage.

    Hi Lilybiri.

I was going to use shape buttons when designing the modules, but the 'Next' button has different actions depending on the individual slide - sometimes it's 'Continue', sometimes it's 'Go to next slide' and sometimes it's 'Jump to slide xx'. I am considering changing this to make my life a little simpler, but it'll mean losing the exit animations I currently have on images and text captions in some slides, as I won't be able to use the 'Continue' action to transition between slides.

Regarding the sentence, sorry I didn't word that very well - let me try to rephrase it:

'Objective' clickbox - The one that the user needs to click to progress to the next slide. This is the one that has the failure caption attached to it.

    Does that make sense?

    Thanks.

What is the use of that Failure caption? It will appear whenever the user clicks outside of that click box, why do you want it? Sorry but I don't understand its goal? Reason why I wanted to see a screenshot.
