Question

IS there an corruption issue with Cptv 9 text to speech?

We downloaded and use Paul from neospeak (?) neospeach (?). We convert a lot of PPT to Captivate files and require TTS and CC for the slides. We require audio and CC for 508 compliance. We upload to an LMS, not Adobe LMS. However when we preview or review published SWF or HTM5 file the audio fails to be heard on random slides. IT starts on on e slide then when you fix it, it escalates to another slide. (ie. you start a publ SWF or HTML5 file for review, you are moving along fine through TTS, CC, and content for slides 1-4, as slide 4 ends and moves to slide 5, the training stops... nothing happens. You know there is TTS and CC on the slide but it doesn't play or appear in the CC area.

Only two thing we find that make the audio work...

1- the learner selects the back button -- returns to the previous slide (4), then the next button to advance again to slide 5. The audio plays. The learner won' t know instinctively to do this. Not a good option.

2- create a dummy slide in the  captivate to trick the SWF/HTML5 file -- Duplicate slide 5. Remove TTS and CC notes. Reduce all timing to about .02 seconds. Set navigation to auto advance to the next slide. The audio plays, but now there are duplicate slides in the cptv and another custom nav needs to be set (jump to slide 4 from now what is slide 7)... another bad option because page count is bloated and inaccurate because once you fix one slide, another one becomes corrupted, etc. etc. It is extremely frustrating because y0u have to republish ever ytime another list gets screwed up.

Note: If we convert a PPT to CPTV without audio there are no issues with the file so it MUST be related to the TTS function.

I have not found any mention of this issue on the Net, but I may be using the wrong search criteria. Is there a solution to prevent this from happening. It's been happening nearly a year now. I had hoped the updates would fix it, but it hasn't. Please advise. Desperate... what should take 30 mintes can take up to 3 hours to fix.

I think this has to do with the fact that you are attempting to add text to speech narration to a PowerPoint imported file that already contains audio.

If you must import Captivate (not something I recommend), I would import it without any audio attached to the PowerPoint. Once you have the file imported, complete the TTS and closed captioning and get that all working.

If you require audio at certain points on the timeline of your project. You can add a transparent shape object to appear and thereby trigger the audio at the appropriate point on your timeline. You can add the audio to the shape under the options tab of the properties panel.

That is a little easier said than done. We have instructional designers that can create the ppt but have little captivate skills.  They use the ppt slide notes to generate the TTS audio. To change that I have to difinitively ID the issue then have to discuss procedure with my supv. I can try a test with an ISD on a small ppt and see what happens.

As suggested previously, I cleared my layouts, interactions, and sample layouts. I even redownloaded/reinstal the voices again, but to no avail. I previewed a new conversion today and while I made minor edits to one or two slides within captivate, a slide I did not touch suddenly became corrupted. Sigh.

I did not clear the layouts, interactions, prefs or sample layouts before installing the 2.0 update as recommended on the Adobe site. I didn't see that procedure until way after I updated to the latest. Would this be a problem??

You can still do it now, but first close Captivate. I would certainly recommend to do so.

If you haven't already done so you should upgrade to version 9.0.2.421. It solves many issues, especially related to efficiency on mobile devices. This may help your situation.

AFAIK the latest version is 9.0.2.437, or is there a difference between the releases for Windows and Mac? That would be a new situation.

My bad, that's correct. The current version is as Lilybiri states 9.0.2.437.

I recently ran a upgrade a few weeks back daring hope, but alas... no difference. I'm currently running 9.0.2.437. And... I also recently cleared my presets thinking it might help. Read somewhere that the linked Cptv 9 browser  could be corrupt.

BTW... any way to make that browser window go away at launch??
