Issues creating closed captions in Captivate

I’ve created closed captions using previous versions of Captivate. The process I follow is to open the Closed Captioning tab in Slide Audio. I insert a caption at the beginning then play the audio. When the audio reaches the end of the text in the first closed caption, I pause and insert a new caption. Paste in the text then repeat. This process has worked well with Captivate 8 and 9.

Now I’m adding closed captions to a project using Captivate 10 (2017). I follow same process but after I  save, close Slide Audio window, I take a look at the closed caption text in slide notes. ALL of the text I’ve added (except for the first and last captions) has been reset to the default message. It’s taking me three times as long to add closed captions because I have to repeatedly add text for various sections of narration.

Am I doing something wrong?

Or was it taken for granted that this feature would continue working after all the other changes were made to the closed captioning feature so no one bothered to test it out?

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

    I have also run into this problem. graced12857907 is correct with the conditions necessary for this problem, however the issue is caused by the text box not being deselected once you move on (sorry for the double negative). When I text box is highlighted and scrolls out of view your work is erased and the default text returns.

    Until this bug is fixed I have found a simple solution that has worked well for me and doesn't slow down my work. I made a 2 minute video to show my co-workers how to solve the issue: https://youtu.be/WtmXwQN7Xb8

    I followed the suggestion from @Lilybiri to report the issue as a bug. Then I continued investigating to answer questions from tech support. I was able to determine the circumstances needed to reproduce the problem. They are:

    1. Enter text in the Closed Captioning window that allows you to set a synch point (or break point) and enter text at the same time.
    2. Create 3 or more synch points.
    3. Add enough text to the third and subsequent rows of text to cause text in the second row to scroll out of view.
    4. Scroll back to view the second row of text. It will have reset to the default.
    5. If more rows scroll out of view, all except the first row will be reset.

    Hi Grace.

     

    You're not going to believe this, but I had the exact same issue happen to me.  TODAY!  I have some screens with rather lengthy audio, and when I did the synching in the exact way you describe, then previewed it, I had the default text appear on a number of captions. It seemed to break when the number of captions on a slide exceeded 5.  On one slide, three separate captions had "merged" into one and then the other two were replaced with the default.  My solution was to go back and re-enter the captions. It worked, but was labor intensive - considering it occurred on about a dozen slides of a 100+ screen project.

    @Chuck were you following the same work flow, or did you start from the Slide Notes panel to create the CC?

    I entered the slide notes, then checked the box to have then used for cc. Then I did my synching.
