Issues with Youtube widget

The YouTube widget in Adobe Captivate has stopped displaying/loading the videos in browser. I've tried multiple browsers across mac and PC, I've tried clearing out the browser caches, and I've tried exporting as Flash and as HTML5 and still cannot load the widget - just getting a blank white space instead. Were there any recent updates to Captivate (or Flash), or is this a bug you have encountered? This isn't just occurring with new modules I'm creating with the software, but has retroactively affected SCORM packages that have already been deployed to UTSOnline which, as of about a week ago, were displaying the videos as normal. This is affecting all modules I've checked.

Please get back asap.

Thanks

If you search this user forum you will notice quite a few other threads related to displaying YouTube videos with that particular widget.  It seems that YouTube has changed something at their end which now breaks video display in any Captivate project that was relying on the YouTube widget.

I suggest you look at those other threads about the same issue.  Some Captivate developers are reporting they can still display their YouTube videos by replacing the YouTube widget with a Captivate Web Object that is pointing at the same video.  But this means you will need to open the CPTX files of all affected projects and edit any slides using the YouTube widget, then republish and redeploy the content.  If you have lots of projects that use the YouTube widget then resolving the issue is gong to be a bear to fix.

Engineering is aware of this issue. As Rod said, YouTube updated the API a few days ago.  The team is working on a fix for the widget now.  It will likely be automatically pushed to your interactions folder as an update once complete. The team is also planning to add a kb article once the fix is complete.

Thanks Allen. It would have been nice if the engineers would have implemented the iFrame api when the depraction was announced 1 1/2 years ago.

    From Google:

The deprecation of the YouTube ActionScript 3.0 Player API, also known as the YouTube Flash API (AS3), was announced on January 27, 2015. YouTube Flash <object> embeds have also been deprecated. See the deprecation policy for more information. Please migrate your applications to the IFrame API, which can intelligently use whichever embedded player – HTML (<video>) or Flash (<object>) – the client supports.

We actually started coding the iFrame api into web pages and inserted as HTML5 animations when this happened.

Hopefully Adobe will be a little more proactive in the future when relying on third-party technology.

I'm going to echo Dave's comments.  This should NOT have been allowed to happen.  It gives Adobe and Captivate a bad name with clients.

Some major functionality in our CpExtra widget was also crippled when the new Cp version 9.0.2 was released.  We now have a fix available for any CpExtra users that have migrated to the new Cp version, but some warning from Adobe about the new release and an opportunity to test our widget with it BEFORE the update went live could have saved us a lot of angst.

    Hi

Thanks so much for your quick response. We will have to do a lot of editing to work around this. Do you know if Adobe will work with YouTube on this issue?

    Thanks again

I have no idea what's happening behind the scenes.  I can only tell you what others in your position are doing to try and resolve the issue.
