Hi,

I've been getting the following message every time I use Adobe Captivate, particularly when I try to record a software simulation.

"A fatal error has occured and the application is being terminated. Adobe Captivate has tried to save all your work in the respective project folders as ".cpbackup" files. Please restart Adobe Captivate".

Is there a solution available?

Thanks

Here is the event log form Luxxie's computer.

    TimeCreated : 8/29/2016 2:13:59 PM

Message     : Faulting application name: AdobeCaptivate.exe, version: 9.0.0.223, time stamp: 0x55cc20a2

Faulting module name: MSVCR100.dll, version: 10.0.40219.1, time stamp: 0x4d5f034a

                  Exception code: 0x40000015

                  Fault offset: 0x00000000000761c9

                  Faulting process id: 0xed4

                  Report Id: 1eb2d734-6e25-11e6-8900-cc52af45c075

It seems to happen only when doing a software simulation

    It happens on multiple profiles

It happens regardless of running as a local admin (I have local admin rights on the PC in question)

we have recreated the preference files

    we have reinstalled captivate

removed and then combed the registry and deleted all the remnants

we have removed and reinstalled Visual C++ 2010 (the faulting module above)

    Cleared the temp directory

Increased the VM from 8GB to 12GB/24GB

    Ran Memtest

    Ran Chkdsk

Replaced msvcr100.dll with one from another computer

Computer has i5 3.1 quad core.  8 GB RAM and a couple of hundred gigs free space.

Any thoughts?  Short of reimaging the computer I am at a loss.

You will need to track down more information about why Captivate is crashing at this point.  Usually there will be a n AppCrash log file somewhere on your system that tells you more information, perhaps even telling you which file was involved.  You can also check (in Windows) in the application Event logs in the Control Panel.

This was happening to me recently as well in Captivate 9 and it turned out to be a conflict with another application that I hadn't used in years.  Once I uninstalled the other app, Captivate worked fine again.

How were you able to determine the conflict with the other program? I'm still getting the error message and the event log indicated there was a conflict with the folders selected in the preferences. I've changed them, but still getting the message.

In my case the Application Event log in Windows showed the crash involved a DLL file in the Windows System 32 folder.  When I looked up the DLL on Google it told me it belonged to a program I had installed a couple of years back but didn't need anymore.  So I just uninstalled the program and deleted the now redundant offending DLL.  After that Captivate 9 started working perfectly again.

    However, your mileage may vary...
