Keystroke Shortcut Keys: Facing issues with Browser

Hi Guys,

We are using keystrokes in our course but some keystrokes are not working properly in IE browser. These are working fine in other browsers. In Internet Explorer (any version) when we click any shortcut key, it’s working for the browser and not for the course. We are using Captivate 9 for developing the simulation based-courses. Is there any solution on this?

Some shortcut keys which are not working properly on IE browsers are:

  • Ctrl+1
  • Ctrl+2
  • Ctrl+H
  • Ctrl+B
  • F7

Also when we tried to add “Spacebar” shortcut, captivate 9 doesn’t accept this as a shortcut key. Is there any alternative option for this? How can we add Spacebar shortcut in Captivate 9? Could you please help us?

    Hi there

Likely the issue is that the Flash object on the browser doesn't have focus. So it's not listening to the keystrokes.

Try putting a button object on the first slide so it pauses playback until the user clicks it. Once the user clicks the button, play continues and focus is on the Flash object, so it should then be "listening" to the keystrokes.

    Cheers... Rick

    Hi Rick,

I have tried the solutions you have suggested, but unfortunately its not working at my end. I have shared the link below for the zip file which contains the output and source file. I have now added one more shortcut key combination Ctrl+F which is working perfectly but not the others which I have mentioned earlier. It would be great if you could check it and let me know what can be done to make the other shortcuts work in the captivate.

Please let me know if there are any difficulties in downloading the zip package. I can also share this to you on your mail.

Thanks in advance. Waiting for your reply.

Each web browser reserves some keystroke combinations for its own use and you cannot over-ride them.

Have you checked whether the specific keystrokes you are trying to use are already defined for use in IE to perform some other task?
