Question

lag between slides

My boss is unhappy with the lag time between slides. It's a minuscule amount of time, but she is saying that reviewers are commenting on it and that it's unacceptable. I don't know if this is something that can be fixed or not, but I figured I'd ask. We've made sure that the slide itself is the correct amount of time, the images and other assets on the slide are timed correctly. It just seems to be that the project is loading or taking time to transition between slides. Anyone have any ideas on this?

    Hi there

It depends on how your project is created and managed. What is on each slide? How does the user progress through them?

If you have videos on each slide, you may be seeing a lag as it takes time for the external video to load and begin playing.

If you are pausing each slide and perhaps using a Button, Click Box or other type of object to pause until ready, check the action of the pausing object. Maybe you have it configured to "Continue" and it needs to be changed to "Go to Next Slide".

    Cheers... Rick

If your client is referring to the a lag time that happens when their content is delivered from an LMS, then the issue could be server latency kicking in.

Take a look at these posts:

Sorry for the very vague original post. We're all very frustrated and tired over here. And thank you for the preliminary feedback.

    here's some more details:

We have no LMS. We're posting straight to a website. (not sure exactly how the web team does this, I can find out more if that could be a factor)

We are creating responsive projects in Captivate 9.

One project has video on each slide, but the others are only audio and graphics or text

We created a custom navigation bar at the bottom of the slide based on libyiri's blog post. There are also some clickboxes that direct people to websites, but that's rare.

The "next" buttons are all set to "go to next slide".

The issue's we're experiencing are minor (in my opinion) on some browsers, like chrome, and more significant in others, like IE and safari. The lag time between slides varies from a fraction of a second to a few seconds. There is also some stuttering of audio and inconsistencies of audio volume that we have no explanation for. Everything appears fine in our previews.

One of our directors is pushing for us to go back to using camtasia at this point, as it's more reliable (in their opinion). I'm pushing to stay the course with captivate, as we're all fairly new to it, and 9 is a new release, and this could all just be growing pains that we'll learn from as we come to understand more. But I could be wrong. Is this user error of some sort? Or is this just how captivate behaves?
