Learning Interactions and Widgets question

Hi, I am a very new user of Captivate, given a project to do with a few others and we are all trying to self learn on the fly.

We have a lot of interactivity on the site we need to create. I know Flash has gone away. Our goal we were givenwas to make this site functional with no Flash. We need something similar to the Learning Interactions and Widgets available in the menu however when I go to preview modes they look good and are functional only in the laptop view. I see they have a ".SWF" designation and so I am paranoid they are Flash files? Are Learning Interactions and Widgets things that can be used in sites that need to be fully responsive or are we looking at the worng options? I would assume they are viable to use since they are there in the menu, but they don't look well or function well in preview tests.

Thank you.

    Correct answer Lilybiri

I will not repeat what Rod already told, just offer you a link to  a post where I explained why Learning Interactions are possible to use for HTML5 output:

    http://blog.lilybiri.com/tips-learning-interactions

It is correct that those interactions themselves are not responsive. However you can use them in a responsive project, with same restrictions as for other non-responsive content (like slide video):

    • do not put them in a normal fluid box, they may be used in a static fluid box or
    • like with interactive video, do NOT use a fluid box at all but set a slide up with Position Properties.

The last workflow has an explanation (for slide video) in this post:

Captivate has two types of widgets.  If the ones you are looking at have SWF at the end of the file name then YES they are definitely Flash files.  Do not use them.

Captivate has shipped with HTML5 Learning Interaction widgets for several versions now.  You should be able to see the HTML5-compatible widgets listed under Media > Learning Interactions.  These ones are all OK to use.

As to whether these widgets are fully responsive, the answer is usually NO.  They are normally designed for use on non-responsive course layouts where the screen size is fixed.
