Can you link a word in a text entry box to a text caption? I want to have my learners to click on highlighted words and more information appears for a particular amount of time. What is the best way to do this?

Have problems understanding your question, and some important information is missing:

    • You talk about a 'Text Entry Box' in the title, but the question is about 'clicking on a word'. What do you mean exactly: a TEB is an interactive object which supposes that the user enters a value, which can be validated or not. Clicking is done with a click box or a (shape) button but is not the same type of interactive object. Both can trigger and action which could display information in a text container.
    • Which version are you using and which output (SWF or HTML5) do you want to produce? Is this a normal or a responsive project? I suspect it is a normal project. If I'm wrong: which work flow do you use for the responsive project: Fluid boxes or Breakpoint views?

I have many examples about revealing content when clicking a hotspot. Have a look at this blog post, watch the example which is an interactive slide showing explanations when clicking a hot spot: both HTML5 and SWF output are shown:
