Question

Links - Placing files on CD

I have a Menu linking to 7 different flash files. When I go to the menu on my computer, the links work fine. When I burn all of the files to a CD and try to run it off of the CD, it can't find any of the linked files. I'm going to be sending this presentation to a lot of people. What's the best way to get these files off of my hard drive and on to a CD where people can actually view it?

I'm having the same problem but with online contect. All five movies are in the same folder accessible to the web but only the opening slide (the one linked to the webpage) will pull up. The others all read page not displayed.

Do I need to put the htm files as well as the swf files on the CD? I didn't do that. I only put the swf files on there. If yes, which one should be clicked to view the introductory movie....htm file or swf? Also, can I somehow force the movies to open up in a certain program? As it stands right now, I click the file. I asks me to choose a program that I want to open it with. I use internet explorer, but I'm not sure that everyone I send this to will know what they need to select to view it.

    Hi again Brock22

If you notice, when you create links from MenuBuilder to Captivate movies, if you point at the Captivate produced .SWF file, you usually receive an advisory message from MenuBuilder that it is redirecting the link from the .SWF to the .HTM page in order to properly display the movie.

So the answer is yes, you really should copy the associated .HTM pages too.

    Hi Brock22

Did you ensure to do the two necessary things?

    1. In MenuBuilder, when you linked to the files, did you click to place a check mark in the check box labeled: Save file with project

    2. Did you ensure you copied all supporting files to the CD? This includes the files you link to, as they aren't included in the file you publish from MenuBuilder.

    Cheers... Rick

I did not have that box checked. I went back, checked the box on all the links, and published it again as an .swf file. It still did not work. I did copy onto the CD all of the .swf files that are used in the menu....I'm stuck on this one.....thanks for all of your help today Rick.

    Hi again Brock22

I'm always more than happy to help if I can.

If you already have the link created, I'm not sure if simply placing a check mark in the check box will be sufficient. Here's the thing. if you create the link WITHOUT the box selected, MenuBuilder creates an ABSOLUTE link to the file. This means if your file is stored currently in the C:\My Documents\Brock22\Foo folder, it will expect the same folder location to be present on your end user's PC. Obviously, this can be troublesome. When you select this check box, MenuBuilder creates a RELATIVE link. This means that the file simply needs to be in the same location as the MenuBuilder file in order to make it work.

My thought is that by initially creating absolute links, just placing the check mark won't remove the absolute bit. You probably need to re-create the links using the "Save file with project" option, to strip away the absolute bits and make them relative.

Also, don't forget to re-copy the fresh MenuBuilder file to the CD too!

    Cheers... Rick
