Question

Lost/Corrupted Files

Hello,

This is going to sound very vague but I thought I would try. After publishing my last two Captivate projects I have lost the majority of my final .cp files. When I open the project in Captivate after publishing, it seems to have reverted to a much earlier version of my project, meaning I have to recreate all of my edits. So I have two questions;
has anyone else had this problem and how have you fixed it?
is there a way to open a published Captive file (.html or .swf) in Captivate and make edits from there? I have tried doing it and it says my file is corrupted. Is there another way?

Project are about 60 slides on average if that helps.

HELP! And thanks!

    Welcome to our community, Beth

    Ouch! Sorry to hear that things have gone south.

    You ask if there is a way to recover from either the .HTML or .SWF. Sadly there isn't. Sure would be nice if there were, wouldn't it? Unfortunately, until Adobe hears from enough folks in your shoes, they aren't likely to create any sort of a decompiler. If you would like to cast your vote for one, you may do this via Wish Form.

    There is a slight clarification you need to be aware of. If you have .HTML/.SWF output, it is presented by pointing at the .HTM page. This is simply a standard HTML page that has been configured to present your Captivate which exists in a .SWF (ShockWave Flash) format.

    Where are you storing your projects? Local PC or on a network resource? If you say "on a network resource" you should be aware that this is likely the cause of the corruption and loss of data. Captivate works best when the content is on the local PC. At least while you are editing the source files it does. The output is actually intended to be on a network or Web Server.

    Sincerely... Rick
