Question

Make highlight appear over quiz answer when mouse hovers over it?

Hello All!

I'm using Captivate 9.0.2.437 on a Windows 7 PC.  On some quiz slides, the highlight bar appears when the mouse hovers over the answer area. I then click on the answer area and my answer is registered. On other quiz slides however, the highlight bar does not appear until only after you 'click' on the answer area. To register your answer, a second click is required. Please see video below for an example of this.

How can I make it so that the highlight bar appears automatically when the mouse hovers over the answer area? I don't want the user to have to click twice to register an answer. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

Regards,

Barrett

Your issue might just be a short delay in the time it takes the rollover effect to appear.  When I test True False or Multichoice questions in Captivate 9 (on Windows 10) the rollovers appear almost immediately when I mouse over the answers.  You should not need to click the answer in order for the rollover background to appear.

Captivate questions are designed by default to require a two-step process.  First you select the answer, THEN you click the Submit button to have your answer evaluated and see feedback.

Hi Rod! Thanks very much for your input.

I do understand that the questions require a 2-step (or 2-click) process of (1) select/click answer, and (2) click 'submit'.

The problem I am having however, is that instead of clicking twice, I have to click three times.

Hovering the mouse over the answer area will not bring up the highlight bar, no matter how long you linger over it.

You have to click to bring up the highlight. So the 1st click only brings up the highlight bar - it doesn't fill the answer area with your choice.

Then, the SECOND click will fill-in the chosen answer.

The third click is to submit the answer.

So again, it's:

- 1st click brings up highlight bar

- 2nd click chooses answer

- 3rd click submits answer

I'm not sure if you're able to view the video of the problem which I attached, but it illustrates it very clearly.

The interesting thing is that other quiz slides in the presentation do not exhibit this strange behavior. They immediately display the highlight as soon as the mouse hovers over it.

Any suggestions for fixing this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again very much for your interest in my problem, and for sharing your knowledge of Captivate!

Yes I did watch your video, and then I opened up a new Blank Captivate project, inserted a True/False and Multichoice quiz question to try to replicate the issue.  But regardless of whether I published to SWF or HTML5 it did NOT behave the same way for me.  The rollover highlights worked immediately as expected.  I am on the same version of Cp9 as you.

I'm wondering whether this issue might be related to your Theme.  Could you try taking a copy of your project file and then change it to a different default Captivate 9 theme, then see if the behaviour is the same.

A third possibility is that you simply have a corrupted quiz slide and you should get rid of it.  If other quiz slides of the same type inserted into your project do not behave this way then I would definitely see this as a corrupted slide.
