Question

"Make videos" they said. "It will be easy" they said. What program do I use to video as I am working on a project?

Sorry I am a bit frustrated and much more! Maybe it is just the funk I am in...

I am an illustrator and I work mostly in Adobe Illustrator. I have spent many years doing freelance work, but recently I decided to branch out and create a brand with my original work on it. Currently I am just playing around on some basic platforms to get started, but I am looking at some more serious platforms to launch my business on and other spin-off businesses on. Everybody, keeps pointing me to YouTube and Video content, which is fine, but I am having an issue figuring out a way to capture video of my screen as I am illustrating and creating and talking and such. I mean this is pretty basic stuff I want to do here. Being able to add a face cam to this would be nice.

I pay for the full creative suite, and so when I was researching I came across something that might work called Captivate, but (remember my head is in a funk, I am in the middle of the day after a 3 day migraine on steroids, so my brain is slightly bruised) none of the freaking text on the website makes any freaking sense. They seem to be aiming the app towards education and online learning instructors. Well I don't give a rats ass about that stuff. My Questions:

  • Is this the right app for what I am wanting to do?
  • If this app is the right app for me, is this app part of the Creative Cloud?
  • If not then why not? I am already paying for the full cloud, and so does my daughter I work, so why would you put this outside the cloud other than to gouge us more for more money? (Yes! I told you I am in a funk, and not in a great mood! Yes I am being bitchy and whiny and and and... Please just be patient with my poor attitude I am working on it. The day after a migraine is a bitch, less than the days of, but still!}

  • If this is not the right software for me can you point me to the correct software apps, and if you don't have an app for creators like me then can you please start programming one? Here is the deal, awhile back I built an almost beast of a gaming pc (of course I now need to update it because it is no longer almost beast) This son of a bitch computer is really having issues with Illustrator. I do some awesome work, but damn I spent hours putting the finishing touches on a piece last night because Illustrator was trying to lock up. I kept having to leave my computer and just let it think for awhile. So adding a recording app, has to not lug down my pc even more. (Don't tell me to get a Mac, for the price of a Mac I can build a serious beast and my last Mac didn't impress me much!
  • Next requirement for said app is that it not kill my computer anymore than Adobe Illustrator is already attempting to do? I am trying to figure out if I just need to add more memory? I can pretty much play any video game that is not 4K at 1080p, so I am not sure why Illustrator is having so many issues, or if I need to upgrade my nvidia 960 to a nvidia 1080, or if it is that my cpu is just too old and I need to go with a new motherboard and cpu? Either way, even if I go with all of those options and just build the biggest bad-ass computer, you all just seem to build apps that can weigh down any computer. (by the way, as heavy as Illustrator is getting you all keep seeming to take some of the coolest features away).

Again, I am sorry for the poor attitude... That is not who I normally am! But I have a lot of stuff I am trying to get done and trying to figure this all out is a major pain in the ass. I was really excited when I saw captivate, but then when it wouldn't let me do much more than try it for 30 days and then pay another subscription on top of the one I am already paying, I became very frustrated and irritated as I am not some huge design house that has a big budget for these things! At least not yet! I know I should probably have waited till the funk was gone, but... I need answers!

Thank you in advance

Sj

Was bit frustrating to read all that **** stuff.

There are even free screen recording appications around, Captivate is definitely not wat you are looking for. Captivate's goal is to create eLearning assets. It has included an applications called Video Demo, but it looks like this will be over your head as well.

Sorry, Adobe, but if you want a good, easy to use application to record your screen and are prepared to pay for it have a look at the TechSmith applications Camtasia and Snagit. Video XPress is OK but cannot be used on retina screens, reason why I cannot use it at all. Most official Adobe tutorials, and those on Lynda.com are created with Camtasia.

I don't know what is wrong with your system, I am running Captivate (is greedy), Photoshop and Illustrator parallel on more than one system, even on a tiny Surface Pro 4. My desktop is over 5 years old, and can manage that as well.

    Sally Jane,

Can I suggest that you take a look at Adobe Presenter Video Express.First of all, it's not part of the Creative Cloud, however, you can subscribe to it for only $10 USD per month ($20 cheaper than Captivate), or you can buy it outright for $200. Here is a recent example of a Youtube video I created using the software.

Here are some tutorials I have done on PVX as it's sometimes called.

    Hope that helps.

Wow! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, first and foremost for answering so quickly and secondly for pointing me in a direction that will allow me to do what I want to do, and third for actually reading through that post and figuring out what I was saying in all of my fog this morning...afternoon??? This day is very foggy to me! I will definitely be checking out all of this. This program seems much more pointed at exactly what I am attempting to do! Thank you, Thank you, Thank You! And Yes $10 a month till I am ready to buy outright the whole program sounds a lot better!

Now off to find out or figure out why my computer and Illustrator are not getting along. My peeps who also use Illustrator and have only 12 gigs of memory and not nearly the level of graphics card are not having any issues??? That is another forum though. LOL!

    Thank you
