Is there a feature I have not found in Captivate 5 that allows me to use mathematical symbols in questions and answers?

Hello,

Sorry for my first posting, did not see that is was posted (clicked Cancel but apparently) and created this new one because realized that you did mention the CP version.

Captivate 5 doesn't have a mathematical editor. Copy/paste from Word will not keep the formatting, so that is no solution.

A solution that will work: create a complex equation in other software and import it as an image.

Want to point you out two shortcuts that are not well known and could be useful for simple equations:

  • To subscript a selected text: use CTRL-=
  • To superscript a selected text: use CTRL-SHIFT-=

There are a number of symbols that can be inserted from the Properties panel of a Text Caption (or a drawing object like a Rectangle as in this screenshot) but it is limited. You find it under this highlighted button:

Thanks for the tip about sub and superscript Lilybiri! I love the forums!!  You just saved me a lot of time and guesswork!

Hello,

Please, it helps if you tell us which version of CP you are using.

There is no real 'mathematical editor' in Captivate. There are a number of symbols that you can insert, but this is rather limited. In CP5 you'll find them where highlighted in the screenshot (Properties panel of a Text Caption or a Drawing object - have a rectangle here).

Because superscripting and subscripting is not right available in this Properties panel, want to indicate you the shortcut keys that can be used (select the characters to be changed and use the shortcut):

  •     for subscripting CTRL-=
  •     for superscripting CTRL-SHIFT-=

As a workaround for complex formulas: create them in another program and insert as an image.

If you are using CP4, copy/paste from Word will keep all formatting. If you are using CP5 this is not the case anymore because the Text Engine changed.
