Hello:

If I merge images into the Background, will it reduce the size (mb) of the file.

Thanks very much.

funny cide, one of the benefits i find from merging images to the background is it makes resizing or moving objects around the frame a bit easier. i find, aside from no longer worrying about grabbing the wrong image, that the speed at which objects are movable is increased when the larger, preponderant image is flushed to the background.

    hope this helps!

    Hi funny cide

This question is a bit like asking if changing your tires will increase your gas mileage considerably.

Unfortunately, the answer is "It depends".

For example, if you had 6 images on the slide and elected to merge them all into the background, it may substantially reduce the space, as they are being consodidated into a single image that is probably smaller from a file size perspective.

But if you have a single image and are merging it into a busy background, the savings won't be nearly as noticeable.

Where you will see the largest savings is by reducing overall project size from the resolution perspective. For example, a 800x600 image is 480000 pixels. But a 640x480 image is 307200 pixels. This means the smaller image saves 6.4% on size.

    Hopefully this was helpful... Rick

    Hi Rick.

Thanks very much for the prompt response. I'm at 800 x 600 and and want to keep it there. However, the project is only 32 slides and 5.6 MB. Any other thoughts on how I can reduce the size.

    Thanks again.

Check out the DevCenter article written by Dave Mozealous, a Macromedia Support Specialist at the time he wrote the article. Click here for the link to the article.

Hope this helps. Dave wrote this in the days of Captivate 1, but everything in the article is still valid today. Have a nice day!!
