Merge with Background not showing up - Very strange?

This is a very strange phenomena... I create a shape on a slide and use the right click and select "Merge with the background"... in most cases, this works. However, I have run into a number of places where the option doesn't show up with the right click. So, I move this object to another place on the screen and voila.. the option shows up with a right click. I can't explain why this occurs. There is nothing in this location or any current objects. Any help on this one would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Dave Schulz,

         You might have Master Slide background selected for slide. Please change it to Project/Custom background to get Merge with background option to show up for objects.

    Hi Sankaram,

    I thought about answering the same way, but I'm stumped by the OP's sentence: 'So, I move this object to another place on the screen and voila.. the option shows up with a right click' which seems to indicate that he can merge the object in some places of the slide, but not in other places. That is the reason why I asked about the used theme and master slide settings?

    I am currently at verson 9.0.0.223 of Captivate. I don't have the master slide selected here, only a single slide in the project. I am attaching an example... in the Cap1 example.... the black shape is right clicked... (note that merge is missing). Then, I moved it up slightly using the tab key and right click once again.. the merge is now visible.

    Which version are you using? Can you give more details about the situations where the Merge command is not appearing. Is it a normal or a responsive project?

    I am using Captivate 9. This is responsive project, but just trying to take a rectangular shape... Move it to a position on the slide and merge it. Sometime the merge option will show up, and then when I move it to a specific place in the slide, the option is gone.

    Which exact version number? Which theme? Which master slide? Are there objects on the master slide in those locations?
