Merging objects into background changes their position on stage

When I merge objects into the background they change their position on the stage. Anyone run into this with a solution?

What kind of objects are you trying to merge?

Have you resized your project at all?

Could you be more precise: which version are you using? I never did see this happen (use CP4; CP5 and 5.5)... there must be a reason.
