Please can someone help...

Captivate is inserts blank slides when recording an application in Demonstration mode.

I can see the mouse movements - and they work - using F3 (preview slide), but disappear when previewing movie (F4).

This happened to me as well...all settings are correct and I could initially see my mouse movements when Previewing. Somewhere during editing Captivate got a little whacked out and stopped showing the mouse movements. I assumed it was operator error and checked every possible change I made to see if I had done something to make the mouse movements disappear but could not find anything. Finally, I rebooted my machine and, of course, all of my mouse movements were again visible - problem solved. Sometimes you have to just kick the tires.

The one action I did just before all of the moue movements disappeared was to add a highlight animation to the slide - maybe highlight animations and mouse movements don't play well together? Can anyone else confirm losing mouse movements after adding highlight animnations?

Hi Peter and welcome to our community

Have you checked Movie > Preferences... > Preferences tab and made sure there is a check mark in the check box labeled Include mouse when movie is generated?

If not, maybe that's all you need to do.

    Sincerely... Rick

    Hi Rick:

Thanks for the welcome - I'm using Captivate to create a suite of Getting Started tutorials for our software. Three done so far at null.

I've checked the preferences and mouse generation is checked.

Could I insert a mouse movement manually?

    Hi Peter

Okay, I'm a bit confused. Yesterday, you said you saw mouse movement when previewing the slide via F3 but the movements were gone when previewing the movie via F4. I performed a quick little test to confirm that what I offered might correct the issue and sure enough, what I conveyed did seem to do the trick here on my PC.

But now you are saying things that are possibly leading me to believe you don't even have mouse movement on the slides. If you have mouse movement, you will see a few different things.

    * A mouse icon should appear in the lower right corner of the thumbnail in the filmstrip
    * A blue line should appear on the slide itself, indicating the starting and ending points
    * A mouse object should appear in the timeline

There are a few possibilities that come to mind.

    1. Are you sure you are recording mouse movement?
(Options > Recording options... > Recording mode > Edit settings... button > Show mouse checkbox.)

    2. After you have recorded, do you actually see the mouse on the slides? Accompanied by the curving blue line?

    3. After you have recorded, do you see a mouse icon in the lower right corner of the slides in the film strip?

To answer your question, yes you can manually turn mouse off and on. In the Edit view, right click the slide in question, point at the Mouse item on the conetxt menu, then click Show Mouse.

I do know that occasionally the mouse will become hidden behind other objects on the slide. Even though it is sitting at the top of the timeline. However, this is typically rare. When I've seen this happen, I can usually recover by dragging the mouse object to the bottom of the stacking order, switching momentarily to a different slide, then calling the problemsome slide back into the editor and moving the mouse back to its position at the top of the timeline in the stacking order.

Hopefully we can help get you sorted... Rick
