Question

Mixing of Random and Non Random Questions

I am currently evaluating Captivate for potential utilization. I see that you can have both fixed and random sets of questions pulled from question pools. My question is ... Can You use both simultaneously? In other words there are always specific questions that you want to ask and then the rest could be random. If the capability does not exist then can you make one pool fixed and another pool random?
Thanks for your help

Yes, you can have your random and fixed coexisting in a single project. The fixed questions would be simply entered as all questions are before randomizing was a feature of Captivate. Click Quiz > Question slide and off you go. Instant fixed question.

Question pools are only really used for randomizing. Basically, you define a pool, insert questions, then insert random question slides that draw from the pool.

Hopefully this answers what you were looking for... Rick

Rick, Thanks for your quick response. SWo are you saying that I cannot have reports generated based upon pools of questions. I.E. When a person is taking a quiz or assessment, you want to determine which areas they are strong and/or weak. Lets say building a house. You have electrical, plumbing, framing, plastering, etc. When giving a test. You want to have certain questions in each of these categories fixed which are asked all the time and others which are randomized for each quiz. The results would then be reported on a pool basis where overall the results achieved were 80-% overall wherein teh individual recevied a 100% in electrical, and say a 60% in plumbing. Is my desire to use the program consistent with the programs capabilities?

    Hello again 10splayer

Ahhh reports! Don't recall seeing that in the first post, so guessing it's a new question.

I'll have to defer to someone more versed in the dark arts of Learning Management Systems to fully answer this. But I will say that in a single Captivate project, all you have from a "Reporting" perspective is the Quiz Results slide. Now if that information is fed back to a Learning Management System, I'm guessing that more possibilities would become available by virtue of the LMS interpreting and tabulating the results. But I don't dabble in the realm of programming LMS'.

    Cheers... Rick
