In C3, I'm trying to apply MS Sans Serif font to the text in a transparent text caption. It sets it back to Arial. Any suggestions?

Well blow me down. This is the weirdest solution yet:

With a [transparent] caption type, If I select the text and apply MS Reference Specialty (which is the font set above MS Sans Serif on my font list) and THEN apply MS San Serif, it works. Otherwise, if I start with any other font--including the default Arial--I can't apply MS Sans Serif.

BTW, My patches were up-to-date, so that wasn't the solution. But thank you Rick and Kerry for prompting me to check.

Kerry, This may open up a whole new troubleshooting process: pick a related item, then pick the item you really want!

LOL, actually isn't it the oldest sales trick in the book?

Now that you mention that, I had an issue with captions.

For no apparent reason, all the captions in my project went from red glass with white writing to red glass with blue writing.

When I opened the properties, selected white and ok..... the text was still blue!!

The only way to change it to white was to select any other colour other than white.... then select white and OK.

Weird, eh?

Hi there

Don't you recall seeing us suggest that as the first thing to try?

I mean, come on now. Everybody and their brother knows that's what you should do first! It's the talk of the town on all the Microsoft blogs.

How odd that one is. I'm very happy for you that you figured it out. Was a real stumper!

Cheers... Rick

Thanks, Rick, on both counts.

I thought I was up-to-date, but will check the patches.

And I've fixed my fat-finger error in my signature (good eye!)

I noticed that email error too, but forget to private message about it.

That nasty four letter word getting in the way... WORK... ugh.

One day I aspire to being as knowledgeable as Rick... well done Mr Captiv8or.

Let us know if the patches fix the problem, Leslie.

Cheers, beers and all the good gear,

Kerry

Hi Leslie

Are you certain you have all the Captivate patches applied? I ask because I recall there being one patch to Captivate 3 that actually caused an issue with fonts and bolding and whatnot. Another patch soon emerged that "patched the patch".

When you click Help > About, what version is listed?

As a side note, I'm looking at your sig line and wondering if I'm seeing a typo of an omitted character. I see your name is Leslie Bivens. But the address is leslie@esliebivens.com and not leslie@ lelsiebivens.com as one may expect.

Cheers... Rick

Kerry, Yep, Did all that. I finally was able to apply Tahoma and it stuck.

Just now I did a random check. It appears I can apply all/most other fonts but not MS Sans Serif. Curiouser and curiouser.

Thanks for your speedy response.

You are highlighting the text in the Text Caption Properties box before you make the change, yes?

If you open the Properties box and all of the text isn't selected, changing the font won't do anything.

You could also try pressing "Ctrl+A" to make sure all the text is selected.
