Question

Multiple Click Objects with Text and Audio

I am asking if there is a better way to do this....

Captivate "Classic" (2019) 11.5.5.553

I have a slide with four topics to be accessed by image click boxes. There is introductory audio that is on the Timeline, and the topic audio is attached to the image boxes. The text is displayed with Advanced Actions.

I have a Pause near the end of the Timeline audio which pauses the slide progress allowing the user to click the topic boxes. A slide-level Advanced Action has all the text elements hidden. So far so good.

My indecision comes in regarding how to control the audio and accompaning text, which is transcription of the audio. This is used since I can't have "real" closed captioning on the Timeline for these four topic audios, since the Timeline only has room for one audio track.

Soooo....

My four Topic Areas - T1, T2, T3, and T4 right now have variations of this Advanced Action:

Play Audio - T1-Audio

Show - T1_text-part-A

Delay Next Actions By - 12 seconds (to allow the audio to play until the next block of text appears)

Hide T1_text-part-A

Show T1_text-part-B

Delay Next Actions By - 8 seconds (to allow the audio to complete)

Hide T1_text-part-B

Pause

So you see the possible issue: I am having everything essentially pause for X seconds to allow the topic audio to play, and synching the topic text to the amount of time it takes for the audio to reach that point.

Is there a better way to approach this issue of having four click boxes to display related text and audio and allow the user to click another box upon completion of the previous topic? Something that is not dependent on using absolute time which may break down if the connection to the presentation is disrupted, or slower than what my local display is showing?

Many thanks for any thoughts.

Don

I probably could propose a more practical way but need to have a complete view before trying.

Using click boxes is really outdated. Why do you use those? It means that I already know you are not creating a responsive project. Can I see a screenshot of the stage, and more important, of the timeline? Using Play Audio instead of attaching the audio to the object which has to appear is already not a good decision. Delay next actions is tricky, you also need to disable all the other 'click boxes'. Did you not think about using a multistate object? States have little restrictions in a non-responsive project. The biggest problem is also avoid to hear both the slide audio and object audio or Play audio simultaneously. I have some blogs about that issue, but want first an answer to my questions.

I use the same version for my jobs, because all the later versions are too limited or too buggy.

Apologies if I did not clearly explain my setup. The audio is attached to the image boxes which now also trigger the text blocks. And this is the design I was asked to replicate, but I have leeway in how this come together, if there is a better structure.

You are correct, this is not a responsive project.

What is the advantage of attaching audio to an object vs. via Advanced Action?

Yes, I recognize that using Delay Action is dicey, but I don't know of another approach to have the text display while the audio is running.

As for multistate object, no, I did not think of that. I have not played with multistates.

    Thank you!

Sorry, I mangled my first sentence in my response... the audio is triggered by the AA on the image box, it is not attached to the image itself. What is the difference between the two approaches?
